Q: How old do I have to be to get a tattoo?

A: In the state of Minnesota you must be 18 years or older to be tattooed.

Q: How old do I have to be pierced?

A: WITHOUT parental consent you must be 18 years of age or older. WITH parental consent you must be 15 years of age or older. If you're underage, both you and one of your parents need to provide a state or federal-issued photo ID with matching last name AND address (school ID's are not acceptable). If for some reason either of those things don't match we need a state/federal issued form explaining the difference (ex: birth certificate, marriage certificate, divorce decree) Please note, any of those forms do NOT replace the need for either of the ID's.

Q: How do I set up an appointment at Wingnut Tattoo?
A: Stop into either of our shops with any reference material you may have and speak with an artist about your idea. We require a small deposit to hold the appointment, it’s non-refundable but comes off the price of your tattoo.

Q: How much do tattoos cost?
A: At Wingnut Tattoo we charge by the hour, the rate varies by artist. For a specific tattoo price quote please speak with the artist of your choice.

Q: Does Wingnut Tattoo have a minimum tattoo cost?
A: Both of our shops have a minimum of $60.00 for tattoos.

Q: Can I swim with my new tattoo?
A: Having your tattoo submerged underwater for any length of time will be devasting to your tattoo. Water hitting your tattoo in the shower is fine.

Q: Can I tan or sunbath with my new tattoo?
A: Direct sunlight or tanning should be avoided for at least the first 3-4 weeks after getting your tattoo.

Q: Can I get pierced or tattooed if I’m pregnant?
A: It introduces unnecessary stress to your body and baby, it is our policy at Wingnut Tattoo to not tattoo or pierce you while pregnant.

Q: How much do piercings cost at Wingnut Tattoo?
A: The price varies depending on the piercing, please call one of the studios for a specific price quote.

Q: Is everything at Wingnut Tattoo clean and sterile?

A: We pride ourselves on having clean and safe studios. We use disposable, sterile single-use needles and our piercing instruments are sterilized with a bi-monthly spore-tested autoclave. All equipment that can’t be sterilized is covered with single-use, disposable plastic barrier and is changed after each client.

Q: What is the difference between externally threaded jewelry and the internally threaded jewelry that’s used at Wingnut Tattoo?
A: Externally threaded body jewelry has the threads on the end of the barbell, and it is placed inside a threaded hole in the ball. Internally threaded body jewelry has a threaded hole inside the barbell, and then an external threaded post protruding from the ball. Internally threaded body jewelry does cost more, because it’s more difficult to manufacture. The Association of Professional Piercers (APP) sets the standards to be followed by professional body piercers, and they make their position very clear in regards to threaded jewelry: “Threaded jewelry for initial piercings must have internal tapping (no threads on posts) starting from 16 gauge.”

Q: My ears seem to be really sensitive to the jewelry I’ve worn in the past, can I wear jewelry from Wingnut Tattoo?
A: Typically the jewelry you’ll find in malls and boutiques contains a large amount of nickel. At Wingnut Tattoo we use a higher grade of metal such as surgical steel, titanium or 14-karat white and yellow gold (depending on the piece,) this should prevent your ears from jewelry irritation.

If you have any other further questions or concerns please feel free to call either of the shops, use our contact form or email us at wingnuttattoo@gmail.com
